Principal Investigator

Dr. Denise C. Vidot is an epidemiologist certified in cannabis patient care and the first non-nurse tenure-track assistant professor at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. Her program of research focuses on the biological, psychosocial, and societal implications of cannabis use across the lifespan. She incorporates a multidisciplinary approach to address health disparities in 5 of the 10 leading preventable causes of death (e.g., substance use, obesity, poor diet, physical inactivity, and tobacco use). The overarching goal of her program of research is to provide evidence on the impact of phytocannabinoids in cannabis on human health via the endocannabinoid system. Throughout her research trajectory, she has led studies that specifically address the intersectionality between substance use, mental health, and cardiovascular disease risk among racial/ethnic minorities from an epidemiologic lens.
