Dr. Ruth Williams has worked with the Western Regional Health authority in Montego Bay, Jamaica for the past 3 years. She holds an M.B.B.S. degree, with distinction, from the University of the West Indies and a B.A. in Anthropology from Barnard College of Columbia University. She has conducted field research on medical humanitarianism in rural Cusco, Peru, and on sociopolitical narratives of interracial relationships in Boston, MA. Her involvement in medical research includes studies on compliance of HIV patients in Jamaica, behavioral risk assessment of STI patients in Kingston, and socioeconomic disparities among hernia patients in New York. With a background in advocacy and education against sexual abuse and violence, she also spearheaded initiatives on gender integration and sensitization amongst health care workers in Montego Bay. She is delighted to be a part of Dr. Vidot’s research team in South Florida and to contribute to the scientific advancements in the field of cannabis research.
